X-Axis Linear Vibration Motor Applications

Sunu Band is the latest wearable technology and mobility aid for people who are blind and visually impaired. The Sunu Band S uses the LVM series Linear Vibration motors to provide haptic feedback via vibration pulses that are sensed on the user’s wrist. The haptic communication of the Sunu Band provides increased awareness and perception in order to improve mobility, orientation or direction information, navigation and time-telling, learn more...

Reflow Temperature Suggest: The typical reflow temperature for NFP-ELV1411A is range for Pb-Free (Sn/Ag) solder is 240-250°C with 40-80 seconds over 220°C. It should be noted that the recommended Sn/Pb reflow temperature range are less critical, and that minor deviations in temperature of equipment and components generally do not create soldering problems. How to drive the vibrator? Or available standard part to drive it from the market: TI is one such company that makes LRA drivers IC’s. TI makes and evaluation board that incorporates the TI DRV2605L haptic driver IC. It should be noted that unlike brushed ERM vibration motors, varying the amplitude of the applied voltage will only change the amplitude of the vibration force, not the frequency of vibration. Short Introduction Of LVM-Series Linear Vibration Motors

Due to their fast rise and fall times and superior braking ability, NFP's linear resonant actuators (LRA) vibration motors are an excellent choice for haptic applications. Their relatively simple internal construction also offers high reliability and exceptionally long life when compared with brushed ERM motors. NFP’s LRA’s have an internal mass that oscillates back and forth along the X-axis at its resonant frequency. They are an excellent alternative to brushless vibration motors as the only internal parts that are subjected to wear / failure are the springs. Unlike conventional brushed DC vibration motors, linear resonant actuators must be driven by an AC signal at the devices resonant frequency. A number of companies make IC drivers for linear vibration motors that supply the correct drive signals and contain a library of haptic effects you can choose from. The frequency of vibration is fixed at the LRA’s resonant frequency which in the case of our 2 LRA’s is either 180 or 200 Hz. Due the LRA’s Hi-Q, applying a frequency above or below the resonant frequency of the LRA will result in the LRA producing a lower vibration amplitude or if far from the resonant frequency, none at all.

1 review for 2.5mm Linear Resonant Actuator − 11mm Type Model NFP-ELV1411A

  1. Danteix

Despite its small size, this linear vibrating actuator is really powerful and can felt the strong vibrations when running, there is no doubt that it is capable of delivering consistent and reliable haptic feedback, and this is important for my design.
